Pick A Book gains momentum in India
With the massive success the reading club has had in Sri Lanka, Pick A Book set its sights further and branched out to a number of countries with equal zeal. One such country that took to the concept of the Book club with great gusto was none other than our own neighbour - India. The Pick A Book club quickly took root across several states in India and book lovers as well as non-readers showed great enthusiasm in making the Book clubs hugely popular.
Books have a way of bringing people together and that is what the PAB clubs have done to great effect. Pick A Book ticked off another accomplishment when it launched two more book clubs in India very recently. It was with great pride and happiness that PAB initiated the Pick A Book Chennai twin launch. The presidents of the Chennai twin club - Sunil Sethia and Kavinathan Do shared their thoughts saying, “We're extremely pleased to have started yet another PAB club on Indian soil. In these trying times, we hope that people will turn to books for motivation and inspiration. We are hoping to further inculcate the habit of reading and help readers in Chennai have their own space to enjoy all things books.” Mr. Sunil also added, “We have a whole host of reading sessions and an amazing lineup of books for our members and we hope that the PAB club will help people rediscover the magic of books.”
The Chennai twin clubs were launched on the 7th of July at 6.00pm and due to the Covid-19 pandemic and curfews imposed, the launch took place via a Zoom meeting. Speaking on this, Mr. Kavinathan Do remarked, “With the novel coronavirus sweeping across the globe, we decided to host out launch via Zoom. What we need during this period is a return to normalcy and keeping with the rules and regulations, we decided to go ahead with our Pick A Book club launch. Afterall, if there is one thing that can bring a semblance of normalcy into our lives, it’s books and reading; the perfect form of escapism as well as some much needed motivation and inspiration".
It looks like Pick A Book is well on track with its goals of further inculcating the love of the written word. And judging by the continuous success the book club is experiencing, the love of reading is well and truly alive.
